Real Bride Advice - An Elegant Southern Styled Wedding in Wichita Kansas at Distillery 244

It was all about hospitality, modern/southern inspired accents, and neutral hues at Kadyn and Justin's wedding at Distillery 244. You won't believe how this creative couple brought their South Carolina charm all the way to Wichita, Kansas. Be Images captured the entire event as pretty as a peach on a warm summer day (we love cute southern lingo)!

Kadyn tells us: The style of our wedding was “Southern Elegance.” We wanted to create a modern, sophisticated vibe with a twist of old southern hospitality that would make our guests feel comfortable and welcome. It was also a nod to our current home in Columbia, South Carolina. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to incorporate pineapples as one of my central decor pieces because it’s a symbol of southern hospitality (and so cute!), but I had to make sure it was done tastefully. I chose gold and white ceramic pineapples in various sizes to be used as the centerpieces on some of the tables and throughout our venue. We had 8 chandeliers from Le Luci Lighting that gave off a soft, luxurious vibe and my favorite part of my decor were the 3 ft floral pieces that hung above my head table, created by Events and Design by Ashley, Le Luci Lighting, and Moore flowers.

My favorite part of wedding planning was creating unique designs to use throughout the ceremony and reception, like my marble menus and programs, snapchat filter, and more! I own my own graphic design business, Southern Noble Co., so it was really fun creating things I wanted that I couldn’t find online!

I chose wild, textured greenery and simple white and cream florals to compliment my classic, long sleeve lace dress. For my bridesmaids, I chose a dainty tulle dress in a soft grey while the groomsmen wore classic black tuxes and bowties.

We actually accidentally discovered our venue through our wedding planner! We had a 2 year engagement, so back in 2015 when we were just getting started, Distillery 244 was under construction and no one knew about it yet. We explained the vibe we were going for to Ashley, and she set up a meeting for us that day, to go look at the venue. Even though the space was just a construction site, we knew immediately that it would be the perfect location for us. The modern, industrial renderings of the space combined with the size of the venue and it’s close proximity to all the hotels and bars in Oldtown (for the after party!) were what made us decide to go with Distillery 244. We were one of the first couples to book the space and looking back, we really took a gamble because at the time they didn’t even have pricing or much of the details worked out, but it was so worth it in the end! The space is so amazing and Aleigh and the team at Distillery took great care of us.

My statement floral pieces from Moore Flowers and chandeliers from Le Luci Lighting were something I’d do again and again, they were so pretty! Spending money on a few big design pieces was more important to me than having a bunch of little items everywhere. I would also book my wedding planner again and again, having the Events and Design by Ashley team to help plan and take care of the day was by far the best choice I made!

The most memorable part of my day besides from officially becoming Mrs. Puthoff and saying I do was celebrating with all our friends and family at the reception! I remember walking into the venue and seeing everyone’s smiling faces and how beautiful everything was and being so happy! At the reception we really got to let loose and celebrate. Another important memory from that day was the time I got to spend with my dad and our father-daughter dance. He passed away unexpectedly the day after I got home from my honeymoon, so my wedding was the last time I saw him. That day will always be special for more than one reason.

Stay true to you and your fiance’s vision for your wedding day and don’t worry about what everyone else wants you to do or what traditions you should be following! Also, make sure to wear a comfortable dress ;)
