A Natural Outdoor Wedding in the Flint Hills at Clover Cliff Ranch

When you hear, “That’s SO Kansas!” what do YOU think of? To us, a place that automatically comes to mind, is the Flint Hills. We have been dying to see a wedding at Clover Cliff Ranch. So, thank you Leah and Josh for choosing this 1890’s bed and breakfast to host your epic, one-of-a-kind wedding day. And, props to Neal Dieker for capturing it so beautifully. Did you know that the Flint Hills are the largest continuous area of tallgrass prairie left in the world? Yeah, us either. Thank you, Google!

This historical bed and breakfast is vintage all the way down to the core and we are in LOVE. It has floor to ceiling wallpaper, antique furniture and the magical feeling of being taken back in time. Leah spent her morning here in an “oasis of serenity” getting ready, just herself and her talented hair stylist.

The bride and groom met for their first look before the wedding, and talk about a groom reaction to die for! They also exchanged gifts, vows AND tears. From that point on, the smiles never ended.

When you’re in the Flint Hills of Kansas the sun seems to shine different. The sky seems more blue, the stars glow brighter and the hills begin to gently roll like waves on water. The stillness of the hills is therapeutic, with the occasional sound of birds, bugs or freight trains passing through. It’s the perfect place for an intimate Kansas wedding or elopement with your closest friends and family.

To close out the evening at Clover Cliff Ranch, Leah and Josh celebrated their vows with a Kansas sunset that will stun you. Be sure to scroll to the end to check it out!

Clover Cliff Ranch gave us a unique experience and opportunity to have friends and family stay on the property the entire weekend (Friday through Sunday) making the celebration last a few days instead of only a few hours.
We wanted to keep everything very uncomplicated, cheerful and mellow with lots of good personally selected music. We elected to not have bridesmaids or groomsmen because we wanted a more intimate non-traditional, one-on-one experience for just us during our vows.
We both find great enjoyment exploring the outdoors and being outside in general. We also think that Kansas has an abundance of natural beauty, the Flint Hills being of our favorites. We have done hikes through the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve (only a few miles from our venue) and wanted the Flint Hills to hold an even more special place in our hearts and memories.
Our main vision for planning was simple: throw a big outdoor party in the scenic Flint Hills to celebrate the love and devotion shared for each other, family and friends. The entire planning process was very family and friend oriented.
Both sides of our families have creative craftsmen and excellent cooks so the decorations, desserts and dinner selection were all either handmade or home cooked with efforts from both families and ourselves.
